Proposal & Bibliography

We define a research able problem which is people do not recycle enough.

We also define the context of our problems we personally think that the environment is one of the important aspect of our life. one of the best ways to create a positive impact on the environment is by recycling. It is also the process of used/abandoned materials which is know as waste to be created into new products. However we realised that many are not recycling or not recycling enough.

We came out of a few framing questions that we can research on
1) How to persuade people to change their habit of recycling?
2) What are the common practices of people while sorting out the household trash before disposal?
3) Why are people not recycling enough could it be the culture and lifestyle of people who live in singapore that consitutes to them not recycling enough?
4) Does habitual practices plays a part in the cause of people not recycling enough?

Bibliography

I found 2 books

2) Top Ways to recycle

I Realized that there are a lot of information about recycling, ways  to improve on it, what recycling can help and play a big part in the environment. There are more information for other countries about this topic compared to singapore. Other countries research more about this topic.

Stakeholders

My group and i listed down the different stakeholders to study on for the problem of "PEOPLE NOT RECYCLING ENOUGH"

The different stakeholders are teenagers, government, position of parents and young children.

We were to decide on a day within the week to embark on a journey to replicate as one of the stakeholders life and to document the journey out. To find out what it is like to be in their shoes to be facing the problem, what they think about it and how they feel. How does this person encounter the problem, how it will effect his or her life.

Government (minister of affairs)

Lifestyle: Busy dealing with country affairs

What the person is like: Aged 35, neatly dressed. Polite. Very busy, Does not really have time be in contact with the outside world as they are always in the office.

What is it like on daily basis that will affect his/her life: It does not really affect his/her life as it doesnt really bother them or affect there life

How does the person encounter the problem: They will not really encounter problems now but in the later part like a few years later, problems will occur like the country will become very dirty, it will cause illness, there will be no more resources like paper if the people do not start to recycle now.

How does the person think/ feel about the problem: he think there should be ways to improve recycling but it is not as important as there are more important matters that are more important like more buildings for the people so to ensure there are enough living spaces and others.

Teenagers (A girl which loves to play electronic games)

Lifestyle: Busy with school, after school go home and play games

What the person is like: 16 years old timid, does not talk much or interact with others. Short and neat hair, dress neatly wearing school uniform and normally dress casually, does not really care about anything except for games.

What is it like on daily basis that will affect his/her life: it will not affect her life much as she is not really concerned about anything as she is only into games. After school, she will go back home and while on the way home she will play games on her phone, she does not observe her surroundings and does not read news or rarely take part in any activities.

How does the person encounter the problem:

How does the person think/ feel about the problem:I do not have the time to recycle. Whether a not we recycle or not it will be the same no much differences will be made.

Young children (A little boy that loves gardening and loves using recycled materials to construct items)

Ben aged 5, smart and neat haircut. He loves the earth and gardening. He goes to school every morning and gets back home in the evening. He loves construct his toys using recycled materials.
He is very friendly and active, he loves being with the nature. If people do not recycle enough, there is no more materials, he will not be able to construct his toys with the recycled materials. He thinks that it is important to recycle and by recycling, it will play a big part to earth.

So i tried to experience and imagine myself being in their position and thinking in their perspective. I learned and realised that in different perspective and different position, there are different importance in their life and there are different problems each encounter.

DESIGN PROCESS BLOG

My group is doing on the topic : " People Do Not Recycle Enough. "

Personally, i agree with the topic that people in the world do not recycle enough, be it in any part of the world or country, age or even gender.

I feel that we are not recycling enough and we should recycle more. I observed that Singaporeans do not have the habit to recycle and worse still there are also problems of littering. I realized there are not many recycle bins. In the whole stretch of town area, i only saw 1 to 2 recycle bins. There are recycle bins however, people do not use it. They tend to throw recyclable materials into the rubbish bins.

I did some research and found out there are not much articles or findings about the topic recycling in singapore but more findings for other countries. There are a lot of articles and research about recycling programs that is happening in other countries and they are experimenting and thinking of ways to solve the problem.

I think that we should recycle more and it is a very big problem that we are facing.
